Portraits
Artist statement
For this project I took portraits of my childhood friend Soraya. She's a very smart and creative person, thats why I took the portraits outside of the campus library. She's always writing and reading and we often go here to work on homework together. I took these pictures on a slightly cloudy day on the front steps so I could get a good view of the building behind her. She had to sit on the railing because she was too short, I got five different shots from multiple angles and allowed her to pose in a way that was comfortable for her. A major challenge I faced was the time of day I took the photo at, the lighting was a little darker then I expected but I managed to fix it in editing. Another challenge I faced was getting the right angle, I wanted to get a good background but it was hard to find what angle worked best. The last challenge I faced was finding out what facial expressions she would do. I decided to let her decide for herself so the photo looked more natural and interesting. I also took pictures of one of my best friends Angeline. Angeline is really outgoing and goofy, I had a lot of fun taking pictures with her. She can also be serious at times, and is a really good listener. One of my images is serious while the other is silly and colorful, a lot like her personality. I accidentally took these photos in two different places, the first I took on a street before we crossed, and the second I took at the mall. The first was hard to take because of the timing, I had to get it before we had to cross. Another issue I had was the lighting in the second picture, like you said before, inside photos have a yellow-tint. I saw that right away but did my best to fix it. A third image I faced was lighting in the first picture. Like the pictures I took of Soraya, it was late in the day and the picture was pretty dark, so I had to edit it. I'm happy to say these pictures turned out very good.
